New Ideas are rare

A review for Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement posted over on Amazon U.K.

Having seen this book on facebook I was intrigued by the idea so bought it to see if t was as good as the 'blurb' intimated it would be. I was not disappointed. The story is a very rare original idea. Not just a re-write of someone elses idea as is usually the case nowadays with most books.
The story is well researched, I found myself googling character names, words and places and found that they fitted well with the plot, not just a random name without any historical. mythical or religious significance.

All-in-all, this is a great story, imaginative and thought provoking. I for one will keep my eye out for the sequel.

Now the manuscript is finished for Elijah Hael's second adventure it's time to work on some promotional material while revising the manuscript before it goes off to the editors.

The assigned manuscript readers have finished reading the draft, and they all love it, saying it is more enjoyable than the first Elijah Hael novel.  Which I'm very pleased to hear!

As you can see in the image below, currently I've called Elijah's second adventure, "The Genetic Code."  It's a tough one to decide on as quite a bit happens in the novel and several different names would suit.  So it may change yet, will have to wait and see!  A couple of manuscript readers are tossing around ideas and they may come up with a better choice.

Today I started designing some posters and potential book covers.  Here is one that I've done up.  This is just a play around and not likely to be the final cover, but will be used for some promotions.

The Last Paragraph

I’ve just finished the last paragraph of the second Elijah Hael novel. It has been a fascinating journey writing this book.  I have become quite fond of Nya and Isaac, two of the new characters introduced. In some ways as an author, I built up a relationship with these fiction characters.  I feel for them emotionally. They become personalities with their individual fears and desires, their particular likes and dislikes, and their own faith and doubts. To me, they become real. They are alive.  The more real they appear to be, the easier it becomes to see them act out scenes with their own unique ways.

When I write, I am visual about it.  Every scene plays in my mind, and then I transcribe it as I see it unfold.  Sometimes I do not even know where a scene is going until it has played out.  I place the characters into a scene and just let my thoughts, based on the personalities created, play out.
I guess you could say it is like a dream, but a semi-controlled dream. Our minds are exceptionally creative. I am sure everyone has a vivid dream and goes, “Wow” where did that come from.  For me, writing is somewhat like dreaming.

That is not to say it is not hard work.  Writing is.  It takes time, patience and a lot of revising and occasionally some research. Seeing something in your mind, then putting it into words is not always easy, well at least not for me.

"A thought provoking must read. Gripping storyline from page one (it has to be to keep my interest!) twice I picked this book up to read and the only reason I put it down the first time was because I didn't want it to end.....finished on the second read. Thank you Steve, please hurry with book two, looking forward to it :)"

I saw my novel, "Elijah Hael & The Last Judgement" on the shelves of the local library today.  It gave me a real sense of achievement. To be able to provide a novel, that many people have expressed they have enjoyed, to the public through the library is a dream come true.

Maybe it's because I loved libraries so much as I grew up.  A place of refuge, a place of peace, a place that gave me time to find myself. Most of all, a place where I could learn so much from so many talented writers of the current and past.  Books, either fiction or non fiction, provide a way to live a life through someone else's eyes.  The knowledge you can obtain in such a short space of time is something we can easily dismiss.

Movies, while pleasurable, never replace the experience of a novel written by a competent author.
